PS4 Won’t Turn On | The Fix

No gamer really likes it when their gaming machine isn’t working like it’s supposed to and recently, many PS4 users have encountered a ‘PS4 not turning On’ issue. When they tried turning on their PS4, it either won’t simply turn on or would turn off immediately. Sometimes, blue light on their Console keeps flashing or a beeping sound would come off.

This can be frustrating for everyone as it happens out of nowhere! If you had a disk inserted, then you can’t even eject it out as your PS4 won’t even turn on. 

Causes because of which your PS4 won’t turn on

There can be multiple reasons because of which, your PS4 won’t turn on. There can be a faulty or loose Socket, faulty Power Cable, low wattage, dust clogged on the device power port or in the worst case there can be a serious glitch or a bug in the software which can be hard to fix.

  • Faulty power strip / Socket: If you have your console plugged into some Power Strip then its recommended to plug it in directly to the wall socket as it the best and the fastest way to Plugin your Console as sometimes the power strip may not provide enough power for your PS4 to turn on.
  • Bad Power Button: Sometimes, its nothing else but your PS4’s Power button which is broken as it’s a touch-sensitive button that is connected to the motherboard with a very delicate piece of metal. So a hard jerk or a drop might misplace the metal part which will break the connection.
  • Faulty Power Supply:  Sometimes, due to power fluctuation, the power supply in your PS4 might go bad which will cause it to not turn on. If nothing from this list is working for you, then this may be the cause of the issue.
  • Faulty Power cable:  In most cases, the power cable which connects your PS4 to a power source could have gone bad because of short-circuits, puncture or forced pulling.

Reconnect your Power Cable

Sometimes, the power cable may be loose, some corrupted file or application could crash the console or dust might have settled on it. Follow these steps as they will fix any corrupted file issue and will soft reset the console.

  • Remove the power cable
  • Wait for 30-60 Seconds
  • Reconnect the power cable 
  • Try turning the console again

Try Inserting a Disk

Your PS4 and detect disk even when it turned off and when it detects disks, it boots up. So when you insert a disk, it will automatically detect it and turn on. You can follow these steps to do it the right way:

  • Plugin the power cable to your device
  • Try inserting a disk. Don’t try to force the disk in, just give it a little push and check whether your console turns on or no. If you push the disk in forcefully, then there are high chances that you might break the sensor inside it.

This should get your PS4 back to normal but If this doesn’t work for you, then simply pull your disk out 

Restart Your PS4 in safe mode

To restart your PS4 in safe mode follow these steps;

  • Press and hold the power button on your PS4 unless you hear 2 beeps
  • After that, connect your controller with a USB cable and press the PS button on your controller.
  • A safe mode screen will show up. Select the first option ‘Restart PS4’ 

This should boot your PS4 in Safe mode

Power Cycle your PS4

  • Turn off your PS4 completely by holding the power button
  • Wait for the power light to go off. Now disconnect all the cables from your console and wait for 20 mins.
  • After 20 mins, plug in all the cables and try booting your PS4 in safe mode ( As shown in step 3) 

Power Cycle your PS4 without Hard Disk:

  • Turn off your PS4 completely by holding the power button
  • Wait for the power light to go off. Now disconnect all the cables from your console 
  • Disconnect your HDD from the console and wait for 20 mins.
  • After 20 mins, plug in all the cables, reinstall the HDD and try booting your PS4 in safe mode ( As shown in step 3) 

Get it Serviced

If nothing really works for you, then your device might be having some hardware problems like Short-circuit in motherboard or Power supply unit, Bad power cable-In, etc which cant be fixed without the help of a PS4 Repair Professional. If you try messing with the machine’s hardware, you may end up permanently damaging some parts. So it’s better to take your console to the nearest Sony Service center and get it Repaired.
